Hey, I'm Nico! Welcome to my little corner of the internet.
I created this website as a place where I can collect, organise, and share the things that I'm interested in, particularly witchcraft, paganism, folk magic, spirituality, mythology, herbs, ritual, and the occult. A lot of what is on this website comes from my own research, notes, experiences, and things that I have learned while developing my personal practice.
I'm a Norse pagan, and Norse paganism is a major part of both my spiritual practice and this website. I'm particularly interested in the Norse gods, historical traditions, mythology, offerings, devotional practice, sacred spaces, ritual, and the ways that modern practitioners can build meaningful relationships with the gods while still learning from historical sources.
Some of the deities that are especially important within my practice include Freja and Thor. I'm interested not only in learning about the gods through mythology and historical sources, but also in the more personal side of pagan practice, such as giving offerings, performing blóts, creating altars, praying, celebrating seasonal traditions, and developing your own relationship with the gods.
Alongside Norse paganism, I have a huge interest in witchcraft and folk magic. My practice and research cover a pretty wide range of subjects, including herbal magic, candle magic, protection, cleansing, divination, spirit work, charms, magical oils, incense, talismans, petitions, ritual work, and the traditional magical uses associated with different herbs, roots, resins, minerals, and other ingredients.
One of the main reasons I made this website was because I love collecting information. I often find myself researching something and ending up with dozens of different notes, sources, rituals, correspondences, ingredients, and ideas scattered everywhere. This website gives me somewhere to actually organise all of that information into something I can come back to later, while hopefully making it useful to other people as well.
I also keep my own Book of Shadows, so a lot of the subjects on this website are similar to the things I record there. I enjoy learning about the history behind different practices instead of only collecting lists of correspondences. When possible, I like understanding where a tradition came from, why something is used, how different practices developed, and how historical practice differs from modern witchcraft.
That being said, spirituality is extremely personal. I don't believe that everyone has to practise exactly the same way that I do. There are countless traditions, religions, magical systems, and individual approaches to spirituality. Something that is important to one practitioner might mean absolutely nothing to another, and that is completely fine.
This website represents my own research, interests, interpretations, and personal practice. It is not meant to be an absolute authority on witchcraft or paganism. I'm still constantly learning, and my understanding of different subjects will probably change as I learn more.
I also try to distinguish between historically documented practices and modern practices where possible. There is a massive difference between saying that something was historically practised by Norse people and saying that something is part of modern Norse paganism or modern witchcraft. Both can have value, but I think it is important to be clear about the difference.
The occult is another major interest of mine. I love reading about different magical traditions, folklore, religious practices, spirits, grimoires, magical symbolism, divination systems, historical superstitions, and all of the strange little traditions that people have developed throughout history.
Herbalism and magical plants are especially interesting to me. I love researching the folklore and magical associations surrounding herbs, flowers, trees, roots, and resins. Plants appear in an enormous number of magical and religious traditions, and I find it fascinating how the same plant can sometimes have completely different meanings depending on the culture or tradition using it.
I'm also really interested in the practical side of witchcraft. I like actually making things rather than only reading about them. This can include creating spell bags, oils, incense blends, herbal mixtures, candles, altar pieces, offerings, charms, ritual tools, and other things connected to my practice.
Another subject you'll probably see throughout this website is divination. I find divination fascinating both spiritually and historically, especially the different ways people have attempted to communicate with gods, spirits, fate, or their own intuition. Tarot and other forms of divination can be useful tools for reflection, ritual, and exploring situations from perspectives that you might not have considered otherwise.
Aesthetically, I'm also very drawn to the darker side of pagan and occult imagery. I love forests, bones, skulls, candles, old books, herbs, runes, moss, wood, iron, old religious artwork, medieval imagery, and that general feeling of something ancient and slightly mysterious. A lot of the design of this website is inspired by that atmosphere.
Outside of spirituality, I'm also interested in web development, which is obviously part of why this site exists in the first place. Building a website gives me a way to combine two things I enjoy: learning about subjects I'm passionate about and creating something from scratch.
The website itself will probably always be a work in progress. I'm constantly discovering new things that I want to research or add. Some pages may become much larger over time, older information might be updated, and completely new sections will probably appear whenever I fall down another research rabbit hole.
My goal isn't necessarily to create some giant definitive encyclopaedia of witchcraft. I mostly want this to be a personal archive that other people can explore too. If someone visits this site and discovers a new deity, herb, historical tradition, ritual idea, book, or subject that inspires them to start researching for themselves, then I think the website has done its job.
I strongly encourage people to do their own research as well. Witchcraft and paganism exist across countless cultures and traditions, and no single website can explain all of them perfectly. Books, historical sources, academic research, experienced practitioners, cultural knowledge, and your own experiences can all contribute to your understanding.
I also believe that respecting the origins of different practices is important. Not every spiritual or magical tradition is interchangeable, and some traditions have specific cultural, historical, religious, or initiatory contexts. Part of learning about magic is also learning where the things we practise actually come from.
At the end of the day, this website is basically a collection of things that fascinate me. Gods, spirits, mythology, magic, folklore, herbs, history, ritual, strange traditions, old beliefs, and everything somewhere in between.
